Ok, we have an Exchnage 2007 running with 8GB of Ram, on a dual core CPU.

Internet connection is 50Mb Down, 5Mb Up and we are getting 5.944 seconds - Warning on Transaction time
when running the MXtools on this site, We used to have this on our old 2003 Exchange server but was fixed by putting in exernal DNS servers. however this does not fix the issue on Exchange 2007.

Any Ideas?

I have done quite a bit of search on google and alot of people seem to have this issue, but no one seems to know a fix.

Just a update to one of my previous emails, I have found a fix for Transaction time warnings (applies to Exchange 2007, 2010)

Run the below in Exchange Shell

get-ReceiveConnector | select name,tarpitinterval

The above commend will get a list of receive connectors

set-ReceiveConnector "Windows SBS Internet Receive PHENOM" -tarpitinterval 00:00:00 (Replace "Windows SBS Internet Receive PHENOM" with the actual name of the Connector)

use the above commend to set the tarpitinterval to 00:00:00

This will fix the Transaction time warnings

Now getting 0.827 seconds - Good on Transaction time, before it was 5.819 seconds - Warning on Transaction time

This fix was hard to find. Its Microsoft way of delaying incoming smtp connections with a 5 second delay to try and prevent spam and its this that causes the Warning on Transaction time

Thanks for the update on your post. We have actually had to adjust our Free Tools because of this Microsoft feature. Its a valid feature but as you found out has caused some serious issues with some mail server administrators!

Let us know if we can help with anything else.

Thanks,
Wendy

Wendy,

It seems as though this is still not accounted for in the free tools: when I do an mx check on my domain, I get the error on my server if I have tarpit set to anything other than 0 seconds.

Is it possible to have a flag that says "I have tarpitting" or even a field to provide tarpit detail?
