I want to ask something, let say the system like this :

For incoming mail:
Internet -> Firewall -> Spam filter -> Exchange -> User

For outgoing mail:
Internet <- Firewall <- Spam filter <- Exchange <- User

Then to avoid this Reverse DNS does not match SMTP Banner error, we must set MX Record in our DNS same as the FQDN of the Spam filter?

Read the instructions about how to change the SMTP header address on an Exchange Server.

But here is a tough one....
I am in talks with Microsoft Support in India, but they cannot figure it out - even though somebody from their group has accomplished this, before we lost the server.

Our AD/domain server/mail server is "mail.zenRx.com" (single machine) ... leftover from upgrades of a WinServer 2000 Domain Controller with the name "zenRx". The upgrade process slapped the ".com" stuff. However, our public/external domain name is "zenRx.org" and we have nothing to do with public "zenRx.com"

Result: SMTP headers do not match now; even though the Zone File and the PTR entry, etc. was perfectly OK before we rebuilt the machine.

Issue: We cannot make the machine [smtp address] look like zenRx.org for the outgoing mails .... it goes out as zenRx.com. Exchange does not allow the change the address (send connectors, etc.). Do you think, this can be achieved with combination of Exchange configuration along with some DNS to the domain/dns/ad/exchange server; without adding an Edge Transport machine.

I am using Imail server, get this "Warning - Reverse DNS does not match SMTP Banner" I have Access to Dns server, but I unable to resolve the Issue. I think this issue have also created a Problem i-e All email are marks as Spam/junk in Gmail, Hotmail. Please Reply if any body has solution

i have the same issue but our smtp header matches the ptr record perfectly. and it is not being masked. but i still get the Warning - Reverse DNS does not match SMTP Banner error and my emails are still stuck in the queue

Hi everybody in MXToolbox!

The diagnostics tool with the command "smtp:184.154.51.50" is showing this:
Warning - Reverse DNS does not match SMTP Banner

What should I do to fix it?

The main problem is that I´m getting from Hotmail this answer:
Reason: 550 SC-001 (SNT0-MC2-F31) Unfortunately, messages from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (the IP address form my email server) weren't sent. Please contact your Internet service provider since part of their network is on our block list.

Is there any relation between those messages?

Thanks for your post...if you go to the first page of this post we have some more details on this warning. Basically your SMTP Banner and PTR record should match and resolve to the same Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN). Currently yours have two different values and most large ISPs will reject your mail.

I´m just starting to work with an online server that runs under the OS Windows Web Server 2008 R2, it is owned by Singlehop and the mail service is managed with Parallels Plesk Panel 9.5.2 for Microsoft Windows. This is my first time with all this, so I have a lot of questions, that I hope you can answer: Where can I find my SMTP Banner info? And the PTR record info? How do I change them? Should I be able to? How may I know which is my Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN)? How do you know that they have two different values?

Unfortunately we only have instructions for the most common mail server, Exchange. The settings may be similar to Plesk, but I am unsure.
